Tanks: Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes of water tanks do you offer?
We offer a wide range of vertical water tanks, from compact 210-litre drum units ideal for small-scale residential use, all the way up to large 15,000-litre tanks suitable for agricultural, commercial, and high-demand domestic applications. This allows you to select a tank that matches both your space constraints and your storage needs, whether for backup water supply, irrigation, or long-term water security.
What are your tanks made of?
Our tanks are manufactured from high-quality, rotationally moulded LLDPE (Linear Low-Density Polyethylene) using 100% virgin material for all our tanks containing drinking water. This ensures excellent durability, long-term flexibility, and superior resistance to environmental stress. The polyethylene is UV-stabilised and food-grade compliant, making it suitable for a wide range of water storage needs, including potable water.
Are they safe for drinking water?
Yes. All our tanks intended for drinking water storage are made using food-grade, BPA-free virgin polyethylene, which complies with safety standards for potable water storage. This ensures your water remains uncontaminated and safe for household use, cooking, and consumption, provided the tank is installed and maintained correctly. Makoro is registered with ARMSA & AGREMENT and manufactures in accordance with all relevant quality and safety requirements.
Are your tanks UV-resistant and suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, our tanks are fully UV-stabilised and specifically engineered for long-term outdoor exposure. The material resists degradation from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, helping the tank maintain its strength, colour, and integrity even under harsh environmental conditions. This makes them ideal for rural, agricultural, and residential outdoor use.
Do your tanks come with a warranty?
Yes, all our water storage tanks are backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty, subject to standard terms and conditions. The warranty covers material and manufacturing defects but does require that tanks be installed according to our published guidelines, including proper foundation and fitting support. Misuse or incorrect installation may void the warranty.
Can I use the tank for rainwater harvesting?
Yes, our tanks are an excellent solution for rainwater harvesting. They can be easily integrated into rooftop collection systems or standalone catchment setups. The tanks are designed to safely store non-pressurised water over time, and with proper filtration and first-flush systems, rainwater can be safely used for garden irrigation, cleaning, or household use.
Can I store other liquids (e.g., greywater, chemicals) in the tank?
Yes, we manufacture a variety of tanks suitable for different storage applications, including greywater, agricultural liquids, and certain chemicals. Tank material selection depends on the chemical composition and specific gravity of the liquid. While standard tanks are suitable for water and greywater, heavier or corrosive liquids may require a high-density or chemically-resistant tank. Please contact us with your intended use so we can recommend the correct tank type.
How often should I clean my water tank?
Cleaning frequency depends on the type of liquid stored, the environment, and how often the tank is used. For potable water, more regular cleaning cycles are recommended. If storing stagnant water, it’s important to cycle water in and out regularly to prevent sediment buildup or contamination. For rainwater harvesting systems, cleaning should also include maintenance of filters and gutters.
Does algae grow inside the tank over time? How can I prevent this?
No, algae growth is highly unlikely in our tanks due to their UV-blocking black inner layer. This internal layer prevents light penetration, which is essential for algae to grow. However, to further reduce the risk, ensure the tank remains sealed and protected from light exposure through pipe inlets or open inspection ports.
Do you deliver tanks, and what areas do you cover?
Yes, we provide delivery across most of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, including Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. If your area is not listed, we’re happy to work with you to find a transport solution. Enquiries from beyond our usual delivery zones are welcome and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.
Bricks: Frequently Asked Questions
Why do face bricks vary slightly in colour?
Colour variation in face bricks is a natural result of the clay firing process. Differences in temperature and atmospheric conditions inside the kiln such as oxygen levels, can lead to subtle shifts in tone. Even slight changes in how heat is distributed during firing can cause bricks to emerge with warmer or cooler hues. Additionally, if the clay is not uniformly blended before moulding, it can create natural streaks or patterns that affect final colour. These variations are not defects they are part of what gives face brick its rich, earthy character.
How many face bricks do I need per square meter?
For standard-size face bricks, you’ll need approximately 54 bricks per square meter of walling. This calculation includes a standard mortar joint allowance and is based on single-brick wall construction. For cavity walls, double-skin walls, or non-standard brick sizes, the quantity may vary slightly. It’s always a good idea to include a small margin for breakage and on-site cutting.
Do you supply bricks per pallet or per thousand?
We supply bricks per pallet for ease of handling and transport. Each pallet typically contains 500 face bricks, securely stacked and pallet-wrapped to reduce movement during delivery. Pricing can be converted to a per-thousand rate for quoting purposes, but all deliveries are made in pallet quantities.
Do you assist with calculating the number of bricks needed for my project?
Yes, we’re happy to assist. Our team can help you estimate the number of bricks required for your project based on your wall dimensions, bond pattern, and structural type. This includes accounting for standard mortar gaps and factoring in a reasonable percentage for wastage or breakage. For larger or complex projects, we recommend having final quantities verified by your contractor or quantity surveyor.
Do you keep stock on-site or is it made to order?
We keep stock of all our standard face bricks at the factory, ready for dispatch. This allows us to fulfil orders quickly and reduce waiting times for our customers. In periods of high demand or for specialised product types, lead times may apply, but we aim to keep our core products readily available.
How quickly can bricks be delivered once I place an order?
We aim to deliver as soon as possible after receiving an order. Depending on current demand and truck availability, deliveries are typically scheduled within 24 to 48 hours. For longer-distance deliveries or high-volume orders, our team will coordinate a suitable time and ensure everything is handled efficiently.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
There is no strict minimum order, and we welcome both small and large-scale customers. However, ordering a full truckload is the most cost-effective option, as it allows you to benefit from lower delivery costs per unit. Our sales team can help you determine the most economical quantity based on your location and project size.
How do I place an order or get a quote?
To place an order or request a quote, simply contact our sales team by completing the request to quote form, or to phone/email. Our staff will guide you through the process, confirm product availability, and assist with transport planning if needed. You can also visit the factory or speak to one of our regional representatives for face-to-face support.
